So, you want to build an email list? Good! And rightfully so.

Every one is on Social Media and it can send you a ton of traffic. But what do smart business owners do with that traffic? They turn it into an email list. and I want you to be one of those

Building an email list is STILL one of the smartest things you can do to start – and grow – your business.


Step 1:  You Need Good Email List Software

When you want to build an email list, you need good email marketing software. And right now, after carefully considering each email marketing service provider, I can confidently say Convert Kit  is a GREAT choice..

Step 2: Get people to sign up for your list

Now that you have good email marketing software, the next thing you must figure out is how do you attract people to sign up to your email list? If you want people to sign up for your email list, you should giveaway something as an incentive to persuade them to opt in.

What can you giveaway? It depends, but here’s a short list:

– Discount code 

This is very common for online stores. People give away a discount code or a coupon code for people who join the mailing list. If you want people to join your email list, giving them a discount code or coupon code is a great way to do it.

– You can give away a piece of free content

Remember, if you want people to join your email list, you need to give them a reason to join. And if you’re not giving away a discount, the next best thing is to give away valuable content that solves a problem for your ideal customer

Step 3: Put Your Opt-in Form On Your Website

You have now decided what you want to do giveaway, you need to put email opt-in forms on your website and there are different options you have for placing your form on your website .

Now that you have your email signup forms in place, the next thing is collecting those emails  and delivering your free gift. Most email marketing software have the option to send a “Welcome” email. It is what you use to deliver your free gift . What should you include in this welcome email?
I like to keep simple and friendly so here is an example

 “Hey, Name

Thank you for joining the family, I’m Name , and  I’m the founder of (Your Company ) .

Here’s the link to the free gift I promised you.

But I have a quick question:

 “What are you struggling with right now?”Even if it’s something small. I’d love to hear more.

Talk soon.”

Why do I ask this question? I ask because when I have an answer to this, it helps me figure out what content I can create for them and also helps me understand who my customer is a little bit better.

Step 5: Here’s How To Build Your Email List

Now that you’ve made it this far, you’re probably wondering, “How can I actually attract the traffic that helps me build my email list?” I’m glad you asked!

Tip #1: Create A Long-Term Content Creation Strategy

One of the BEST ways to build your email list is by creating share-worthy content on a regular basis.

When you create share-worthy content, people share it. And when people share it, more people see your  “email signup form” and eyeballs means more potential email signups!

Create content that your ideal customer would want to read and SHARE… and promote that content.

Look, I know everyone hates popups. I do too. But they work. Here’s the thing though…
You do not want to use a POPUP that blocks your entire page. If you do that Google Search will penalize you. So don’t do that. However, you can use smart popups that don’t block your whole page and they work great.

One of the biggest challenges entrepreneurs face when setting up their own business or even as they grow their business is that they try to sell to everybody and they assume everyone is a potential customer.

I see a lot of entrepreneurs describe their target customer with one blanket description : 25 – 45year old women with who live in……Geez that is like describing a quarter of the population.

Without getting clarity of who that  one customer is , you will struggle to attract the right customers or even attract any customers at all because your marketing message will be diluted  and generic. Your message will not resonate with them.

There are benefits to taking the time to define the profile of your ideal customer  one of which is your limited budget and attempting to reach the whole world all at once is a recipe for disaster so it is wiser and more profitable to define your ideal customer ,  target that as aggressively as possible to begin.

Why you should create an Avatar?  

  • It helps to hone your marketing message so it appeals to a specific individual or group
  • Increase your lead conversion rates
  • Attract more of the right customer

 

What is a customer Avatar and How do I create a customer Avatar?

A customer avatar is a detailed fictitious representation of your ideal customer.

You need to dive into WHO your ideal client is and then determine WHERE they hang out. This is crucial to help you know where you need to be looking to find your ideal clients.

How you can find your Ideal Customer?:

Category 1: You already have an ideal client you’re working with now and you’d love 10 more of that person. You can create your ideal client based on that person.

Category 2: For a large percentage of us, we were our most ideal client before you started your business.

So, it’s a matter of dipping back into that time in our lives and remembering what it was like when we were getting started in our niche. If you kept a notes during this time, it’s even better. That journal is gold!

Category 3: If you’re not already working with clients and you didn’t start in business because of your own challenges with what you do now, then creating a hypothetical ideal client is the next best option. This is a matter of bringing together all information you know about your ideal client – who they are, what their challenges are, what they would like to achieve.

Let me give you an example. Let’s imagine you’re selling organic food for babies.

Now, our ideal client is obviously the mum – not the baby. So how do we target her?

Let’s use stay – at – home Mum Sarah as an example where can you find her, you need to:

visit forums for new mothers, where they discuss issues or ask questions key questions

take a look at your existing or potential customers and interview them to understand them more, Understanding this mum gives you a chance to be able to get your message in front of her.

So that you are able to present her with the solution she seeks and in a way that resonates with her

To identify what platform to target we look at her key activities in the day – She has an active day with her baby, and she has a limited time we can pinpoint 3-4 platforms you could be targeting for this particular mom – Facebook/ Pinterest, podcasts, blogs and emails.

If you can delve into a typical day of your ideal client, then you can create a detailed plan of when you need to be on the various social media platforms, come up with methods to deliver content to your ideal client.

  • Background: Jobs, Education etc
  • Demographics– their age, gender, income, etc.

  • Interests – their similar likes and dislikes, sports, hobbies, etc.

3. What challenges they face and what they want to achieve:  What drives the need for your products or services, what their goals are and what benefits it will be to them in using your products or service

  • What are they researching?
  • What is their challenge, Pain points or need?
  • What are the benefits to them in finding a solution?

4. WHERE YOU CAN FIND THEM: Define your customer interests and where they are attracted to, whether a physical location or a cyber space where they gather.

  • Where do they hang out?
  • What do they read? Both online and offline?
  • What do they search for online?
  1. Build your Customer Avatar: Develop profiles that describe specific segments of your current customers, and ensure that these profiles are close to reality as possible so that you can truly understand this group of customers.
  • Describe your client profiles
  • Create a specific avatar for each identifiable client group and name them
  • Include representative images of ideal clients

6. Write out the Typical Day and Ideal day journal of your Ideal Customer – based on the information that you have collected. it helps you visualise your understanding of their pain-point before they met you and after you have provided a solution to their problem

 

Conclusion

Once you have completed these simple steps you will have a clear picture of the type of customers your business should target. you will find that every time you create a new product or service, write any content about your product and having your ideal customer in mind you marketing message will be more focused and consistent, you’ll be able to better reach the new customers you need to take your business to the next level. In this post I will share 3 things you can do to help you focus your efforts on building your email list.

Before you spend your time on trendy marketing tactics, make growing your email subscriber list your top priority. Whether you’re launching a new business or looking to grow your current one, a high-quality, relevant email list will help you achieve your goals.

This might feel impossible when you have a huge list of high priority tasks in your business, but with email marketing you’ll put automated systems in place to attract potential clients on a consistent basis.

2. Strategize

You can’t expect your business to grow if you aren’t taking advantage of email marketing. Think strategically about where you want your business to go and plan for that.

Start by identifying who your ideal customer is. Create an enticing free offer, and use that free offer to get people to join your email list. Seize the opportunity to market directly to your potential customers by creating and growing your email list. This is one surefire way to grow your business. 

3. Focus

When you focus solely on growing your email list, you are putting processes in place that will bring in huge results for your business over time.

Day 3 Build Your website challenge

 

I will show you step by step how you can create your business email from the Siteground Control panel, I will show you how to create an email account for business. SiteGround provides cPanel, so you will be able to access it to create the Email Accounts.

First, you need to login to cPanel and click on the Email Accounts icon located in the mail section.

Next, you will need to type in the new Email account you want to create and fill the necessary information for it.

 

  • Email – enter the email address you want to create. Note, that if you have more than one domain registered you will need to choose the right one.
  • Password – select a strong not easy to guess the password for your new email account. The password strength helps you make it secure enough.
  • Mailbox Quota – choose the size of the mailbox. Note, that different accounts have different maximum mailbox size. You will see a note with your specific limitation above this field.

Once you’re ready, press the Create Account button at the bottom. That’s it.

HOW TO RETRIEVE YOUR EMAILS

To receive your business emails, you have two options, you can access it via your control panel, visit the same email section and click on webmail, type in the username and password you have just created and sign up

OR

You type into your address bar yoursitename.com/webmail and it should take you to the sign in page and you use your details to log in. You will then be presented with three different email clients you can choose anyone to access your emails.

EMAIL FORWARDERS

You can set up email forwarders for your emails,  you can choose to forward the email to a pop address if it saves you logging in every time. Visit the same email section and select the forwarders option

Click on the add forwarder button and type in the address you would like to forward and in the destination section, type in the address you would like to forward to the email forwarded to and click on the add forwarder button and you are notified that it has been done
